‘Every child deserves the best possible start in life and to support and fulfil their potential. A child’s experience in the early years has a major impact on their future life chances. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the framework that provides that assurance’ (DFES 2007). Fairytales Day nursery understand that parents need to feel confident when choosing early years services that will keep their children safe and help them to thrive.
What is the Early Years Foundation Stage? (EYFS)
The EYFS became a statutory requirement from September 2008, which incorporates both the care and development of children from birth until the end of reception year.
The EYFS has built and extended upon three previous early years frameworks:
• Birth to Three Matters
• National Standards for Daycare
• Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage
How does it work?
At Fairytales Day Nursery you can be confident that your child will be safe and cared for during their time with us. The EYFS welfare requirements cover the safety and standard of the environment that children are in and the level of care they get while they are there.
A core feature of the EYFS is to encourage children to learn through play.
Play is vital for children. It is through play that babies and young children learn through experiences and opportunities about the world around them enabling them to grow and have fun!
What are the 6 areas of learning that supports children’s development in the EYFS?
• Personal, Social and Emotional Development
• Communication, Language and Literacy
• Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
• Knowledge and Understanding of the World
• Physical Development
• Creative Development
We provide children of all ages and abilities with the resources and opportunities to learn through play which incorporates these areas of development in different ways.
